"High" Fashion: Current/Elliott The Snap Jean Jacket

Last week I defended denim in all forms, even the jean jacket ( I still have an old Abercrombie and Fitch one). This week is a little different now I’m not changing my tune regarding all things jean, what I’m appalled about is the price of the Current/Elliott The Snap Jean Jacket. Did you click on the link….did you faint…..yes it does say $275 dollars!? I’m not sure if this jacket is spun from pure gold or what but, I can tell you this it AINT worth $275 dollars. I even made sure I placed a picture of the back of the jacket up to let you know that there isn’t some surprise details like intricate hand beading, or hand studding that still wouldn't begin to rationalize this price tag. If you are in the market for a new jean jacket then may I suggest a wiser and more pocket friendly choice :

Women's Denim Jacket – Old Navy $25.00

Leucadia Destroyed Faded Jacket – Hollister Co $59.50

Natalie Jacket – Abercrombie & Fitch $79.50

"High" Fashion: Candela NYC Jazz Sandal

I’m sorry I never was really a huge fan of the gladiator sandal, but I respected the trend although I didn’t actually wear it myself. Well now it’s 2009 and I will no longer respect this played out trend, seriously the gladiator sandal is “soooooo 2008”! Candela NYC (I love their knit hats by the way) hasn't caught up with the times and has created the NYC Jazz Sandal. Now don’t me wrong the sandal is cute enough, even though it is pushing the envelope with it’s gladiator styling, I thought the studded were a nice touch. However when I caught a glimpse of the price tag I nearly fainted $248.00 for a shoe that Maximus or King Leonidas wouldn’t even wear? I’m sorry a suede, studded gladiator sandal is not worth 60 bucks let alone 250!

"High" Fashion: Rhinestone Spray Checkered Flannel Shirt

Once again some “genius” thinks that just because it says vintage and that they add rhinestones to it that they can hike up the price. This time it’s not a pair of overpriced chucks, but the Rhinestone Spray Checkered Flannel Shirt by What Comes Around Goes Around. This little gem is 190 dollars; yeah you saw it right one hundred and ninety dollars! Kurt Cobain is rolling over in his grave right now to see a look that he made so popular in the early 90’s come back with this price tag. I’m not against vintage resale; remember last week when I raved about how Urban Renewal took old items and reworked them into new items, well they do it right, and at a reasonable price point. If you just have to have the look I suggest you go to your local thrift shop/Urban Outfitters buy an old flannel shirt ( hell buy a new flannel from Forever 21), and then to Michael’s Craft stop to buy rhinestones/fabric glue and have at it!

"High" Fashion: Disco Pants

AA got it so right with the throwback look of it'sSatin Charmeuse Night Jacket but these pants are oh so bad! Don’t get me wrong, I actually like the shiny leggings and funky alternative leg wear but the Disco Pant not so much. It’s not that I totally hate the pants, it’s just well they are basically skin tight shiny nylon jeans that happened to be way overpriced at 90 dollars. One reviewer even mention that “it is like swimsuit material”…really and who wants to wear pants that look/ feel like a swimsuit? American Apparel I usually love your kooky, off kilter stuff, but seriously 100 dollar Sandra Dee Pants and it’s not Halloween is not a good look! “ You’re the one that I want oh oh ohhhhhh”
Style Note: Weird thing is Karla from Karla’s Closet actually makes them look cute???

"High" Fashion: Studded Vintage Converse

I can’t lie I love love love the punky, funky, fashiony goodness of the Studded Vintage Converse however I hate the 168 price tag that they dare to charge. I mean there is really no way to justify the price hike a plain pair of classic chucks ( no frills) is $44.99 of course that’s way more than your parents use to pay but still a price many people are willing to pay. Back to the Studded Vintage Converse, so they are a pair of classic chucks with studding details and did I mention that I don’t even care that the studs are hand applied still doesn’t justify the price! I’m challenging all of you who like these shoes to DIY, seriously anyone at an elementary school level of intelligence could create there own.

Here’s a list of Materials needed, and the rest should be self explanatory:

Chuck Taylor All Stars -49.99 ( brand new) or relatively free ( used)
Bedazzler -19.95
Studs – price varies (around 5.95-7.95 for 100) but this place has so many in brass, copper, gunmetal, black, silver, silver faceted etc etc.

All that is still less than half the price of the ones being sold online!

"High" Fashion: Lost Vegas

Okay I filed the Lost Vegas Tee under “High Fashion” however I’m not really sure where this product really belongs ( in the trash maybe). Part of Urban Outfitters description of the tee is “While the silhouette will stay the same as what you see here, each t-shirt will have unique holes and tears.” are you kidding me? This is the most asinine clothing item I have ever seen in my life, I mean yes it’s silly to buy jeans with holes in them, but a ratty tee shirt for 28 dollars is beyond silly it’s almost insulting that this product is even available. If you see anyone in this shirt please take a picture of it and send it to me because I have a hard time believing that they can sale one shirt!

"High" Fashion: My Lovely Trash Jacket

I have no idea why this jean jacket is 248 dollars. This my friends is the most ridiculously priced item I have ever seen in my entire life. There isn’t anything extra special about it, it’s made of cotton, and spandex, it’s made to look worn ( aka broken in), and it’s slim fitting, you know like I said nothing special. Lets just put the economy, and money woes aside for a second, because I can honestly say I wouldn’t pay this much for a jean jacket regardless of how much money I made. I mean it’s 2008 and most people don’t even wear jean jackets anymore( I do) and if they do, it surely isn’t going to be an investment piece. What makes it even more annoying is the actual name of the jacket “My Lovely Trash..." they even know it’s not worth the cash by giving it a trashy name. Seriously I can go on and on about this so I’m going to end my rant now!

"High" Fashion: Lauren Conrad Jacqueline Top

I was browsing the Lauren Conrad Fall 08 collection online when I saw this top that I just had to have. That is until I saw the $175 price tag. Okay I know it’s a bit more fabric than the average top ( tunic style), but it’s made of lycra and modal two fabrics that are pretty basic when it comes to clothing these days. As much as I desire this cute little top I would never pay this much for it. I can’t see a company justifying this price tag, so I’m going to live in my fantasy world and be convinced that it’s a typo!

“High” Fashion: La Rok Rock and Roll Dress

I have to admit LaRok’s Rock Inspired pieces are pretty cool. Now it may take a certain confidence to pull some of the looks off or you may look like you had a bad bedazzler incident. My personal favorite is currently the appropriately named Rock and Roll Vest. This vest is more of an accessory than a piece of clothing. It would fit well with my wardrobe staples, the white t and jeans mix in a pair of booties and I’m ready to go. The one bad thing is it has the nerve to be priced at $288.00 now as I said before it's really cute, yet on the verge of a DIY project gone wrong so why would you pay more than 100 bucks (still pricey) for this item? When you get down to it any bored grandma with an infomercial addiction can make this. Obviously some fashion question, especially in regards to price points will never be answered.

“High” Fashion: Zoe Button Sleeve Top

Okay, I totally love Urban Outfitters it’s one of my favorite stores making this post particularly hard to write. I was browsing online today when I came across an item that made me say WTF! Don’t get me wrong the Zoe Button Sleeve Top is totally cute, and something I would typically wear but the 88 dollar price tag has me at a loss. Really,88 bucks for a sheer modal t-shirt with all of 6 rhinestones that aren't even Swarovski? Someone in Urban's merchandising department has been getting high if they think anyone should be paying that much for this item!

“High” Fashion: Nightcap Fairy Headband/Belt

The Boho chic look is here to stay, and that means the leather braided headband worn on center parted locks is here to stay as well. Today I came across one (which is a band/belt hybrid) while browsing my favorite online shop that was priced at $154.00, yeah you are seeing straight $154.00. Nightcap clothing the creator of this headband/belt hybrid is of course straight out f L.A. and headed by Carisa Brambles former sales girl for other L.A. based stores. The line boost some really cute yet typical boho/la-girl looks that you would expect to see on the likes of a Mischa Barton, or Mary-Kate Olsen. With it's lofty price tag for 50 inches of braided leather, and some fringe Nightcap totally misses the mark. If you are still in love with this look you are in luck you can find a cheaper version here.
